1. Where are the meetings ?

  2. Our meetings are held at the Westdale United Church which is located at 1509 Sherbrooke (Woodglade and Sherbrooke).

  3. When are the meetings ?

  4. We meet once a month on the third Tuesday of the month. Most of the time our meetings are at 7:30pm (doors open at 7:00pm), however in January and February we meet at 2:00pm (doors open at 1:30pm). The start of each year is in September and we do not meet in July and August.

  5. What do you do at the meetings ?

  6. Our meetings serve many purposes. The prime purpose of the meetings is for people to meet others that are new to the area and get to know more about them. At most meetings we will have a guest speaker who speaks about some aspect of Peterborough. Refreshments are served.

  7. Who runs the Peterborough Newcomers Club ?

  8. The club is entirely run by the club members who volunteer their time and energy to make the club successful. The club would not exist without the volunteer efforts of the members. All members are encouraged to find some aspect of the club that they can help with.

  9. Are the Peterborough Newcomers a religious group ?

  10. No, the Peterborough Newcomers are not religious. We are a completely non-denominational, non-political and non-profit organization.

  11. How much does it cost to join the Peterborough Newcomers ?

  12. Our annual dues are $ 20.00 per person. The amount of the membership is reviewed each year by the Executive of the club.

  13. Are there additional expenses ?

  14. Additional expenses may be incurred by a member choosing to attend special group events like a Peterborough Petes game or participating in monthly group activities like bowling, crafts, movie nights or luncheons.

  15. How long can you be a member of the Peterborough Newcomers ?

  16. You can be a member of the Peterborough Newcomers for up to three years. After that, you may join the Alumni Club for as long as you like.

  17. What are the benefits of belonging to the Peterbrough Newcomers ?

  18. When you belong to the Peterborough Newcomers, you join an instant fellowship of people just like you who have moved to a new city and who want to make new friends and create a new social circle. Belonging to the club makes it easy to get to know people and form friendships that can last your lifetime. There are many people who have been members of the Newcomers organization for 25 years or more, who still have special friends that they met when they first joined.

  19. Can I come to a meeting without joining ?

  20. Yes, we encourage you to come to one or two meetings, to get to know us and see what we have to offer, before paying membership dues.

  21. What kind of activities does the club offer ?

  22. The actvities offered by the Peterborough Newcomers Club reflect the interests of the members at that time. Currently, we have many activitiey groups such as: cycling, walking, crafts, bowling, bridge, movie nights, luncheons, gardening, poker, euche and pot luck dinners. These groups meet on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly). In addition, we have many organized one-time events such as a Pete's game, theatre, Kawartha Downs, Hutchinson house, to name a few.

  23. Can I start my own activity group ?

  24. Absolutely, anyone that joins the Peterborough Newcomers Club that would like to start a new activity is welcome to do so.

  25. Do I have to live in Peterborough to join the Peterborough Newcomers ?

  26. Anyone that lives either within Peterborough or in the surrounding area (such as Bridgenorth, Lakefield or Cavan) are more that welcome to join.
